Bordeaux Hall
The Dr. John Albert Gibert House on 5 Acres
Began c. 1859 Completed c. 1867
McCormick, South Carolina
SOLD!

Nestled in a PRIVATE park-like setting minutes from Strom Thurmond Lake, Numerous Savannah Lake Communities & Golf Courses and Hickory Hill State Park & Golf Course, this beautiful Greek Revival, Bordeaux Hall, with towering columns and gorgeous grounds of oaks, massive magnolias , box woods, roses and gurgling fountains bring back the genteel Southern Charm of a by gone era.

The home of Dr. John Albert Gibert (Grandnephew of the leader of the French Huguenots who settled New Bordeaux) was begun c. 1859, experienced interruption by the War Between the States, yet went on to completion immediately following the war. Most of Dr. Gibert's former servants chose to stay with him and were employed in the building of his new home and other plantation task . Architect William Henry Jones of Atlanta designed this magnificent home for which timber was cut from the forest of the Gibert Plantation. The architecture is classic revival with four large white columns on the front. Lore has it that 3000 bricks (made on the plantation) were used in each column. The home is significant as an example of an elaborated upcountry I- House embellished with Greek Revival style. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The home has center hall with double entry doors front and rear. There is formal parlor, formal dining with wonderful hand painted mural, den, kitchen, bath and bedroom on the main level with two bedrooms and one bath on the second level and balcony overlooking the grounds. Beautiful chandeliers adorn and there are fireplaces in most every room. Large windows bring in natural light and lovely pine floors glisten. Side and rear porches provide wonderful space for outdoor living and peaceful enjoyment of the gardens and nature in its purest form. Winding Brick and rock walkways, original well house and garden sheds all add to the ambiance of this marvelous Southern home and grounds where many have strolled.

There is also a new Carriage house /garage on the grounds with comfortable apartment above which can be used as Guest Quarters or additional income as does the current owner.
